VCU's Men's Basketball Team trains in 2012 with SEAL Team PT

vcu12.2

VCU Head Basketball Coach Shaka Smart and VCU Strength Coach Daniel Roose completed our 2 Week Basic Fitness class and earned our Blue T-shirt and certificate just like all STPT Members.  This fall, it was time for their players to get a more intense taste of the training.

Tougher Training:  Shaka Smart and his team of coaches and players stepped up to the A10 this year and are serious about winning.  They kick off their their season each year with a more intense athletic team building week courtesy of SEAL Team PT.  The team building week is designed to take players outside their comfort zones, get them focused, and prepare them for game 1, ready to win.

  2012 CAA Champions!

"Difficult does not mean impossible"

Congratulations to Shaka Smart, the coaching staff, and players for winning the CAA Championship.  Thanks to Shaka Smart and Strength Coach Daniel Roose, SEAL Team PT was introduced to Division 1 College Basketball in Sept 2011.  We had no idea it would be this much fun.

Though SEAL Team PT played a small part in their season, we found this experience particularly rewarding because we were given an incredible opportunity to witness this team mature by attending their practices and home games.   We were told by outside sources this young team was the underdog back in September because they had lost 4 of their 5 starters from last season and had many freshman.  We were also told they might win a few games and that this was a "rebuilding year."  During their training with us I noticed players and coaches gave 110% during each evolution. I could easily tell these guys were hungry to improve and that is a major ingredient in winning. Their practices were just as intense.  Navy SEALs say "You train how you fight" and "The more we sweat in peace the less we bleed in war".

It turns out this young team set a VCU record by winning the most games in a single season this year.  They also won the CAA Championship and are now headed to the NCAA Tournament.  Not bad for a rebuilding year.  It really is amazing what you can achieve when you work as a team.  Their success is a testament to the "Family" Shaka Smart and his coaching staff have put together at VCU.  We at SEAL Team PT are 110% behind you going into this NCAA Tournament.  Hoo yah VCU Rams!

From a leader's perspective Shaka Smart showed his team how to win by giving 110% on every evolution.  In the military we call this leading by example.  On a team we count on everyone to do their part.  It takes everyone to win,  and just one person to lose.  It is clear to Team VCU Basketball, it is more important to win than individually score the most points.  Thank you VCU.  We are looking forward to the next training opportunity.  Hoo yah!
